When looking for fun activities to do, after you’ve partied on New Year’s Eve, consider heading to the Pasadena Tournament of Roses for their annual New Year’s Day parade. This event is perfect for friends and family and this year will mark the 130th Rose Parade. After the parade, the Rose Bowl college football game will take place.
The Rose Parade has been a long standing tradition in Pasadena. All the floats in the parade are completely decorated from all natural items such as flowers, seeds and other flora. This year, the theme for the 130th rose parade will be “The Melody of Life” and will celebrate music, the universal language. This year, the Grand Marshal for the parade will be singer, songwriter and philanthropist Chaka Khan. The parade route will take place along 5 ½ miles in Pasadena. Tickets are available for purchase to guarantee seating in the bleachers. You can also find a spot along the parade route for free.
After the parade, the celebration continues over at the Rose Bowl where the 105th Rose Bowl football game will take place. Traditionally, the game features the winners of the Big Ten and Pac-12 leagues. This year, Ohio State will take on Washington. Pre game activities begin at 1pm including tailgates and opportunities to meet the Royal Court members including the Rose Queen. Tickets for the game are on sale now.
